南加州淡江大學校友會的成立源始於母校校長張建邦率領台北市議員訪問團到蒙市訪問蒙市議會時，由校友莊華敏、吳金生、楊曦、何惠東、陳添壽、張毅威等校友負責接待。
彼時有感於活躍在工商業各界的淡江校友雖多卻難於聯繫，因此在1981年九月由以上校友發起組織淡江大學校友會。

北加州中國大專校友會聯合會自一九八四年成立，至今已邁入第24個年頭，從第一年的十九所會員學校發展到今天的三十四所，會員人數已達近五萬人，是灣區最大的華人社團。
